RetroMania Wrestling announces PS4 release date (Europe)

Since RetroMania Wrestling initially launched on Steam on February 26th, the game has been dropped on different consoles at various dates. Aside from Steam, the game has already hit the ring on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in most parts of the world. However, the European version of RetroMania Wrestling had been delayed, and now we finally have a date.

Retrosoft Studios announced on Twitter today that the PlayStation 4 release in Europe will now go down later this month, on May 25th, but that their team is working to get that date pushed up. Once the game is fully accessible on PlayStation 4 across the globe, the focus at Retrosoft Studios will shift to getting the game released on the final platform — the iiRcade.

Could more wrestlers from the U.K. be headed to RetroMania Wrestling’s roster?

The U.K. presence in RetroMania Wrestling is strong. Dating back to 2019, Zack Sabre Jr. was the third wrestler to be announced for the game’s launch roster, following after Hawk and Animal of the Road Warriors. Not only that, but Nick Aldis is the man holding the Ten Pounds of Gold in RetroMania Wrestling. The London ring in RetroMania Wrestling, which can be found in both Story Mode and Exhibition is outstanding too!

Across social media, Retrosoft Studios has hinted at various times that there are more tag teams coming to the game. The British Bulldogs would be a fantastic addition to what has been a very fun arcade-style wrestling game. The team of Davey Boy Smith and the Dynamite Kid, who held the Tag Team Titles in WWE, would add some big star power to the game’s tag team division. Who wouldn’t want to have the Road Warriors face off with the British Bulldogs?

Currently, the only DLC wrestlers that have been announced are IMPACT Wrestling’s James Storm and Chris Bey, along with former WWE and WCW Superstar Mr. Hughes.

A new Game Mode is coming to RetroMania Wrestling

For those who have been craving new content to come to RetroMania Wrestling, you’re in luck, because Retrosoft Studios recently tipped off that not only will new wrestlers be joining the game’s roster via DLC, but that there’s a new game mode is coming as well.

Currently, RetroMania Wrestling has a few game modes including Ten Pounds of Gold, Story Mode, and the Retro Rumble. It would be interesting to see a game mode similar to Ten Pounds of Gold, but where you’re instead wrestling your way to a set of Tag Team Titles. However, the game lacks an adequate number of legitimate tag teams to truly make the mode work. Presently, the only real tag teams on the game’s roster are Hawk and Animal of the Road Warriors, Matt Cardona and Brian Myers, and then any combination you make for the Blue World Order, with Stevie Richards, the Blue Meanie, and Hollywood Nova on the roster.

If the new game mode coming does in fact focus on a newly added Tag Team Championship, then perhaps some of the upcoming DLC wrestlers who are added are tag teams. So far, Retrosoft Studios has only announced IMPACT Wrestling’s Chris Bey and James Storm, and wrestling legend Mr. Hughes as DLC wrestlers. This will be the very first appearance in a video game for both Chris Bey and Mr. Hughes.

RetroMania Wrestling may be delayed on consoles

While the Steam release is still scheduled for February 26, RetroMania Wrestling may now be delayed on consoles.

RetroMania Wrestling, which is the official sequel to the 1991 arcade classic WWF WrestleFest was set to be released this month on Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. Retrosoft Studios released their latest episode of their weekly Developer’s Vlog this week, where owner Mike Hermann went into detail on how they may just slightly miss their target release date.

As Mike Hermann explains in the latest episode, it’s not confirmed that the game will be delayed. Instead, it’s nothing more than a possibility at this point, as Retrosoft Studios is currently going through certification for the upcoming console release.

“We are working through some issues on the console ports, so we are still, fingers crossed, hoping to get the game out as desired on the 26th. We are in good shape for PC, we’re going to hit the 26th on the PC. We’re still hoping to hit the date, fingers crossed, on the consoles as well. But you’ll notice that we’re not in the eShops yet, because we’re going through certification. So, the game is done! Repeat, the game is done! But we are in the certification process.”

Mike Hermann, Owner of Retrosoft Studios (RetroMania Wrestling Developer’s Vlog, Episode #39)

Hermann would go on to say that if the console versions of RetroMania Wrestling are delayed, it would only be a few days at most.

“We have our release on Steam ready to push out, and we are hoping to get console released at the same point in time, fingers crossed. If not, it could be delayed a little bit. We’re talking hopefully just days, if at all. We’re still saying ‘if at all’ at this point. As soon as get through that certification approval process, we’re hitting the button and it’s pushed out.”

Luckily, if the console release of the game is delayed, wrestling fans won’t be waiting long for it. What console will you be picking up RetroMania Wrestling on?

Nick Aldis on having his own Game Mode in RetroMania Wrestling

Nick Aldis, the current World Heavyweight Champion for the National Wrestling Alliance, will be one of the centerpieces of the launch roster for the upcoming release of RetroMania Wrestling.

Although the game is the official sequel to the 1991 arcade hit WWF WrestleFest, it will feature much more than just a tag team mode and a Rumble match. Instead, the game offers that, a story mode, and several match types that didn’t appear in the arcades back in the early 1990s. In a recent interview with Wrestling Headlines, Nick Aldis was asked all about the official sequel to WWF WrestleFest, where he’ll be the ‘final boss’ in the game’s Ten Pounds of Gold mode.

The reigning NWA Champion weighed in on what it’s like to be one of the wrestlers in RetroMania Wrestling.

It’s very flattering. It feels like a lifetime ago that Mike and the team at Retrosoft reached out. Right from the first conversation, I was thrilled when they described the concept. I totally understood why they were approaching me, and smartly on their part, they got me on board first, then helped leverage that to a wider deal with the NWA, a license deal with them for the set, and the brand, and the Ten Pounds of Gold mode.

It’s been a blast. We are a start-up organization. We totally appreciate and want to help the growth of other ambitious start-ups who are approaching things in a different way. So with Retromania…the concept and the way they were going about it… they were focusing on a niche, but they were approaching their marketing in a fun way. I felt like they had a really good degree of self-awareness and authenticity, and I thought that it aligned perfectly with the message that we were trying to get across in the branding and marketing of the NWA. The whole process has been great.

NWA Champion Nick Aldis, in an interview with WrestlingHeadlines.com

It’s also important to note that this will be the video game debut for the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. The game also marks the video game debut for four other wrestlers: Colt Cabana, WARHORSE, Jeff Cobb, and Austin Idol.

I don’t want anything I lend my to be subpar. I want it to be… even if it’s not the biggest thing in the world… I want the people that do see it or do experience it to say “wow that was really good.” I’m excited about it. It will probably lead to me finally getting on Twitch because once there’s a game that has a whole mode dedicated to me and what I’ve done… seems like a no-brainer.”

RetroMania Wrestling’s digital release is currently scheduled for February 26, and the game will be released for Steam, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. For more information on RetroMania Wrestling, visit their official website.

RetroMania Wrestling tried signing Brodie Lee

Since the passing of AEW’s Brodie Lee on December 26, there has been a constant stream of love and support for the man and his family. Beloved by the fans and his peers in the world of pro wrestling, Brodie Lee will be forever missed and never forgotten. And while he’s likely to appear in the upcoming video game to be released by AEW Games, that wasn’t the only developer that was interested in including him in a game recently.

On the latest episode of the RetroMania Wrestling Developer’s Vlog, Mike Hermann of Retrosoft Studios mentioned that the developer tried to sign Brodie Lee the day he was released by WWE in December 2019.

“We tried to get him the day he was released by WWE. Unfortunately, he was not interested. He thought it might muddy the waters for when he signed somewhere else. He was super gracious, I did not personally talk to him. And I don’t know if Mike (Archer) talked to him, or just talked to his manager, but the message relayed, super professional, all of the stories about what a great guy he was — from all accounts on our end, totally true, conducted himself very professionally. Said the right things to us when we were working with him, didn’t say we were a small project, that he wasn’t interested, or anything like that. Just seemed to be a genuine person who just thought it might muddy the waters for him signing with AEW.”

RetroMania Wrestling – Developer’s Vlog (Episode #35)

Mike Hermann goes on to say that he would have loved to have him in the upcoming release of RetroMania Wrestling.

Currently, the launch roster has 16 wrestlers: The Road Warriors, Tommy Dreamer, NWA Champion Nick Aldis, Colt Cabana, Johnny Retro (AKA John Morrison in WWE), Matt Cardona, Brian Myers, the Blue World Order, Nikita Koloff, Jeff Cobb, Zach Sabre Jr., WARHORSE, and Austin Idol. IMPACT Wrestling’s Chris Bey is the only wrestler to be announced as post-launch DLC.

RetroMania Wrestling is set to release on PC, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One digitally on February 26th.

Also, after months of fans requesting that the game be released on physical media, Mike Hermann of Retrosoft Studios also announced on the latest episode of the Developer’s Vlog that the company has finalized a deal with Limited Run Games, but didn’t share a release date for that edition.

RetroMania Wrestling is scheduled to release for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and on Steam. The game, which was originally announced in early 2019, features 16 wrestlers at launch, including Hawk and Animal of the Road Warriors, NWA Champion Nick Aldis, Tommy Dreamer, Colt Cabana, the Blue World Order, Brian Myers, Matt Cardona, Johnny Retro (aka WWE’s John Morrison), Nikita Koloff, Jeff Cobb, Zack Sabre Jr., Warhorse, and Austin Idol.
