RetroMania Wrestling announces PS4 release date (Europe)

Since RetroMania Wrestling initially launched on Steam on February 26th, the game has been dropped on different consoles at various dates. Aside from Steam, the game has already hit the ring on the Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, and both the PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 in most parts of the world. However, the European version of RetroMania Wrestling had been delayed, and now we finally have a date.

Retrosoft Studios announced on Twitter today that the PlayStation 4 release in Europe will now go down later this month, on May 25th, but that their team is working to get that date pushed up. Once the game is fully accessible on PlayStation 4 across the globe, the focus at Retrosoft Studios will shift to getting the game released on the final platform — the iiRcade.

Could more wrestlers from the U.K. be headed to RetroMania Wrestling’s roster?

The U.K. presence in RetroMania Wrestling is strong. Dating back to 2019, Zack Sabre Jr. was the third wrestler to be announced for the game’s launch roster, following after Hawk and Animal of the Road Warriors. Not only that, but Nick Aldis is the man holding the Ten Pounds of Gold in RetroMania Wrestling. The London ring in RetroMania Wrestling, which can be found in both Story Mode and Exhibition is outstanding too!

Across social media, Retrosoft Studios has hinted at various times that there are more tag teams coming to the game. The British Bulldogs would be a fantastic addition to what has been a very fun arcade-style wrestling game. The team of Davey Boy Smith and the Dynamite Kid, who held the Tag Team Titles in WWE, would add some big star power to the game’s tag team division. Who wouldn’t want to have the Road Warriors face off with the British Bulldogs?

Currently, the only DLC wrestlers that have been announced are IMPACT Wrestling’s James Storm and Chris Bey, along with former WWE and WCW Superstar Mr. Hughes.

A new Game Mode is coming to RetroMania Wrestling

For those who have been craving new content to come to RetroMania Wrestling, you’re in luck, because Retrosoft Studios recently tipped off that not only will new wrestlers be joining the game’s roster via DLC, but that there’s a new game mode is coming as well.

Currently, RetroMania Wrestling has a few game modes including Ten Pounds of Gold, Story Mode, and the Retro Rumble. It would be interesting to see a game mode similar to Ten Pounds of Gold, but where you’re instead wrestling your way to a set of Tag Team Titles. However, the game lacks an adequate number of legitimate tag teams to truly make the mode work. Presently, the only real tag teams on the game’s roster are Hawk and Animal of the Road Warriors, Matt Cardona and Brian Myers, and then any combination you make for the Blue World Order, with Stevie Richards, the Blue Meanie, and Hollywood Nova on the roster.

If the new game mode coming does in fact focus on a newly added Tag Team Championship, then perhaps some of the upcoming DLC wrestlers who are added are tag teams. So far, Retrosoft Studios has only announced IMPACT Wrestling’s Chris Bey and James Storm, and wrestling legend Mr. Hughes as DLC wrestlers. This will be the very first appearance in a video game for both Chris Bey and Mr. Hughes.

Mr. Hughes coming to RetroMania Wrestling

We’re one day away from RetroMania Wrestling’s official launch day on Steam, and the team at Retrosoft Studios just did their first of two reveals for post-launch DLC.

Retrosoft Studios had dropped hints last week on the two DLC reveals. One was described as a former World Heavyweight Champion who has won the Tag Team Titles with five different partners, with the other being someone who wrestled for WWE, WCW, and ECW in the 90s, but has never been playable in a video game.

We now know that the latter is none other than Mr. Hughes, as announced by Retrosoft Studios on Twitter.

Who is Mr. Hughes?

Curtis Hughes is best known for his runs in both World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) and World Championship Wrestling (WCW). Throughout his professional wrestling career, his gimmick was that of a heel enforcer who always wore a suit, sunglasses, and never smiled. During his time with WCW, he served as a bodyguard for both Lex Luger and Harley Race, and was instrumental in helping Lex Luger capture the WCW World Heavyweight Championship.

Following his stint with WCW, he moved onto the World Wrestling Federation, where he feuded with the Undertaker. At one point during their rivalry, Mr. Hughes stole the Undertaker’s urn, but lost every match to the Dead Man. One of his feature matches with the company came at the 1993 King of the Ring against WWE Hall of Famer “Mr. Perfect” Curt Hennig.

Curtis Hughes would also wrestle for Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW) in the mid 1990s, and return to WWE for a few stints in the latter part of the decade, serving as bodyguards for both Triple H and Chris Jericho. Having been the on-screen bodyguard for Triple H, he was eventually replaced by Chyna.

Who will be the next DLC reveal?

Retrosoft Studios has stated that there will be several wrestlers coming as post-launch DLC, but that only two would be revealed today. They hinted that the next wrestler to be announced is a former World Champion.

Retrosoft Studios has not announced when DLC would be available, and has yet to reveal the download prices. So far, the two post-launch wrestlers announced are now Mr. Hughes and IMPACT Wrestling’s Chris Bey.

Keep it right here on Pro Wrestling Gaming as we eagerly await the next reveal! Who are you hoping to see?

RetroMania Wrestling may be delayed on consoles

While the Steam release is still scheduled for February 26, RetroMania Wrestling may now be delayed on consoles.

RetroMania Wrestling, which is the official sequel to the 1991 arcade classic WWF WrestleFest was set to be released this month on Steam, Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. Retrosoft Studios released their latest episode of their weekly Developer’s Vlog this week, where owner Mike Hermann went into detail on how they may just slightly miss their target release date.

As Mike Hermann explains in the latest episode, it’s not confirmed that the game will be delayed. Instead, it’s nothing more than a possibility at this point, as Retrosoft Studios is currently going through certification for the upcoming console release.

“We are working through some issues on the console ports, so we are still, fingers crossed, hoping to get the game out as desired on the 26th. We are in good shape for PC, we’re going to hit the 26th on the PC. We’re still hoping to hit the date, fingers crossed, on the consoles as well. But you’ll notice that we’re not in the eShops yet, because we’re going through certification. So, the game is done! Repeat, the game is done! But we are in the certification process.”

Mike Hermann, Owner of Retrosoft Studios (RetroMania Wrestling Developer’s Vlog, Episode #39)

Hermann would go on to say that if the console versions of RetroMania Wrestling are delayed, it would only be a few days at most.

“We have our release on Steam ready to push out, and we are hoping to get console released at the same point in time, fingers crossed. If not, it could be delayed a little bit. We’re talking hopefully just days, if at all. We’re still saying ‘if at all’ at this point. As soon as get through that certification approval process, we’re hitting the button and it’s pushed out.”

Mike Hermann, Owner of Retrosoft Studios (RetroMania Wrestling Developer’s Vlog, Episode #39)

Luckily, if the console release of the game is delayed, wrestling fans won’t be waiting long for it. What console will you be picking up RetroMania Wrestling on?

Tajiri added to Wrestling Code roster

The Wrestling Code, an upcoming 3D wrestling game from Virtual Basement, just had another big addition to their already loaded roster. Former ECW and WWE Superstar Yoshihiro Tajiri has been added to the game’s roster! The announcement came from Virtual Basement’s Twitter feed, just days after the company announced that former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Scott Steiner would be a playable wrestler as well.

It’s been several years since Tajiri has been playable in a video game, when he was a regular member of the roster in the early WWE Smackdown vs. RAW games. The former three time WWE Cruiserweight Champion first made his video game debut in the 2000 release of ECW Hardcore Revolution, which was released on the Game Boy Color, Nintendo 64, Sony PlayStation, and Sega Dreamcast. Tajiri isn’t the only former ECW wrestler on the Wrestling Code’s roster, as the game’s already stacked roster includes Francine, Rob Van Dam, Lance Storm, and Justin Credible.

From Virtual Basement, the Wrestling Code does not have an official release date as of now. The game is slated to be released for the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC.

Scott Steiner is coming to the Wrestling Code

The Wrestling Code, an upcoming game from developer Virtual Basement, is a 3D wrestling game slated to be released on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X, and PC, but no release date has been given yet. Aside from the incredible 3D visuals of the game, the Wrestling Code also boasts a pretty impressive roster for an indie game, including both a men’s and women’s roster.

Now, the latest addition to this already huge roster is none other than former WCW World Heavyweight Champion Scott Steiner. It’s been quite a while since Big Poppa Pump appeared in a wrestling game, with the only two games he’s been in over the last 13 years being the 2008 release of TNA Impact, followed by WWE 2K14.

Steiner isn’t the only WWE or WCW alum in the game, as the Wrestling Code’s roster also include names like Alex Riley, Konnor and Victor of the Ascension, Francine, Butch and Luke — the Bushwhackers, Shad and JTG — Cryme Tyme, Elijah Burke, EC3, Enzo Amore, Gangrel, Justin Credible, Ken Shamrock, Lance Storm, Matt Sydal, Raven, Rob Van Dam, and Zach Gowen.

RetroMania Wrestling set to announce DLC in February

RetroMania Wrestling, which is the official sequel to the 1991 arcade game WWF WrestleFest, is set to release digitally on February 26 for the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Steam. As of now, the launch roster includes 16 wrestlers, and fans have been asking for information regarding wrestlers being added to the game in the future via DLC.

In response to a fan question on Twitter, Retrosoft Studios revealed that their team will be announcing some names just prior to the game’s long awaited release date.

In a follow-up tweet, Retrosoft Studios explained further: “To clarify, we’ll be announcing at least two of them just before the digital release date. There will be more than two DLC wrestlers post-launch, of course, but at minimum we’ll be announcing a couple just before release.”

Currently, the game’s launch roster has 16 wrestlers: Hawk and Animal of the Road Warriors, Tommy Dreamer, NWA World Heavyweight Champion Nick Aldis, Colt Cabana, Johnny Retro (aka John Morrison in WWE), Matt Cardona, Brian Myers, Hollywood Nova, Stevie Richards, the Blue Meanie, Nikita Koloff, Austin Idol, Zack Sabre Jr., Jeff Cobb, and Warhorse.

The first DLC wrestler, IMPACT Wrestling’s Chris Bey, was announced several months back as being a free download shortly after the game launches. With the word out from Retrosoft Studios now being that there will be more than two DLC wrestlers after the game launches, it will be interesting to see who gets announced. There has been no word from the company yet as to what the downloadable wrestlers will cost.
